Letter to the Electorate

My fellow Yucaipians, it is essential that we preserve the quality of life that we enjoy so much here in Yucaipa. To safeguard the rural character and friendly ambiance that makes our city so inviting and enjoyable to live in requires a strong and visionary leadership. I have provided such guidance as Yucaipa’s Mayor and Council Member for the past twenty–two years and would like to serve the citizens of Yucaipa for another term.

It requires careful planning and solid strategy for a city to become and remain prosperous while minimizing any adverse effects that come with growth and change. It is important to prudently screen any proposed development to ensure that the benefits for the community outweigh their impact so that the environment and the quality of life of our community can be maintained. At the same time we have to support our local businesses, making sure that they are successful as well as ensuring that the entire community thrives – Good solutions always involve multiple parties, they require citizens, businesses, and the city to work together, they include dialogue and compromise as well as a clear vision for the future of the city. The vision for the city is declared in the General Plan. A strong General Plan is the foundation for good planning and it is imperative to adhere to it, so that our city develops into the right direction.

In Yucaipa we have been extremely successful in this context: We have grown, carefully and intelligently. We have achieved and maintained prosperity, sometimes despite nation-wide economic turmoil. We have acquired land for public parks for our community to enjoy. We have constructed new and improved existing public facilities that support the day to day life in our city. We have upgraded our infrastructure and increased public services to accommodate our community’s growth and to better serve our citizens, and best of all, Yucaipa has accomplished all these improvements without imposing any additional local taxes. In 2015 Yucaipa was deservedly named the most financially responsible city in the state of California and out of more than 400 cities surveyed, the most unlikely community to file for bankruptcy. This is an achievement that we can all be proud off.

I have been the longest serving member of Yucaipa’s City Council. In every year of my tenure Yucaipa’s financial reserves have increased, new public services have been introduced or extended and our community’s quality of life has become the envy for many cities in the state. It has been an honor and a privilege to be elected into the City Council of Yucaipa for the past 22 years and I would be honored if you would cast your vote again for me in November.
